PLASTIC FANTASTIC BY TOMAAS

w York-based fashion & art photographer Tomaas’ Plastic Fantastic series of images has an overall sense of etherealness. The model is staged with various plastic items such as straws, tubing, platters, and bottles. The striking contrast of the black background with the cool lighting creates an edgy, dream-like theatrical element.

South Pacific Brewery Coaster Report

The South Pacific Brewery annual report, printed entirely on beer coasters, has won a Gold for Design at the Clio Awards, following on from a Silver Design Lion at Cannes in 2010, and a Gold World Medal in the Annual Reports category at the New York Festival of Advertising, 2011. The Papua New Guinea company had its annual financial report printed onto pages made of perforated coasters, each with a unique design. The ‘pages’ were hand-stitched and wrapped with a cover, tied together with chunky wire. Stakeholders in the brewery were literally able to have a drink on their company’s success.

AstroTurf Aeron Chair

AstroTurf Aeron Chair! Need I say anything else?
To some degee I wished this classic web2.0 chair sensation was covered up in grass, but astro turf has some very intriguing quality to it for an office chair.  I guess it also depends on which astro turf it is.
“The collaboration between Japanese botanic artist Makoto Azuma and furniture designerHerman Miller led to the creation of an unusual version of the Aeron Chair. This AstroTurf covered chair delivers all the important features of the Aeron Chair, with the interesting feature of having a distinct green “skin”. This chair comes as a natural response to the works of Makoto Azuma and Herman Miller, accentuating the decorative inclinations of the first artist and the exceptional design techniques of the latter. The body of the chair – including all the small details – were covered in a green AstroTurf skin, leaving only the wheels and moving parts bare. Just as Herman’s site says: “It’s all about making great design available to consumers“. You can see the AstroTurf covered chair this summer at the Herman Miller store in Tokyo, in the Marunouchi shopping district.”

WWF: One Daily Drop Living Calendar

We had to create a gift / direct mail to commemorate and celebrate the WWF’s 50 years of environmental conservation. The idea: A living calendar. A piece of design that reflects our cause and that aims at changing the perception of what people can do to help the planet. By just moving a finger for 3 seconds, we give water to a plant. If we repeat this small act everyday it becomes an act that supports our cause and will change the perception of what can we do to help the planet. 365 days, one drop of life everyday.
